If you’ve made changes to your school meals or engaged students in menu planning and nutrition education, you may qualify for a Healthy Meals Incentives Recognition Award! Bridgeton Public School District in New Jersey is the first school district in the country to receive five Recognition Awards! Congratulations on receiving the following awards:
- Innovation in the Preparation of School Meals
- Innovation in the Cultural Diversity of School Meals
- Lunch Trailblazer
- Innovative School Lunch Makeover
- Innovation in Nutrition Education
The district has reduced sodium at lunch by offering new scratch made menu items that incorporate local foods, such as Beef Stir Fry (shown here), as well as items that reflect the culture of the school population, like Cilantro Lime Corn. They also implemented comprehensive nutrition education through classroom activities, health fairs, and taste testing via the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.
